Islamic Dawah have successfully marketed a claim that Islam “gradually” stopped slavery on its own thanks to the Islamic teaches of the Quran and the Prophet. However, historical facts show otherwise.  This information can be independently checked and verified by anyone who wants to do so:

– Mauritania (1981, mandated by the UN)

– Oman (1970, mandated by the UN)

– UAE (1963, mandated by the UN)

– Saudi Arabia (1962, mandated by the UN)

– Yemen (1962, mandated by the UN)

– Algeria (1962, mandated by the French rule)

– Qatar (1952, mandated by the British rule)

– Kuwait (1949, mandated by the British rule)

– Pakistan (1947, mandated by British rule)

– Syria (1946, mandated by French rule)

– Lebanon (1943, mandated by the French rule)

– Bahrain (1937, mandated by the British rule)

– Iran (1929, Shah of Iran under pressure from League of Nations)

– Sudan (1924, mandated by the British rule)

– Turkey (1924, mandated by the League of Nations)

– Iraq (1924 mandated by the British rule)

– Egypt (1923, mandated by the British rule)

-Morocco (1922, mandated by the French rule)

– Jordan (1921, mandated by the British rule)

– Libya (1911, mandated by Italian rule)

– Tunis (1846, mandated by its ruler Ahmed Bey to align with Western values).

Where do you see “as mandated by the Quran”? Careful examination of the history of slavery in the Islamic world, we realise that three key factors led to the banishing of slavery: Under pressure from Western colonizers, the League of Nations, and the United Nations. It is incredible how easy it is for us to bash the West, forgetting that they were instrumental in getting Islam off its addiction to the slavery of other nations. The morality question of slavery has long been settled. Slavery is morally unacceptable, even if there is the suggestion that they will be ‘treated nicely’. Owning humans sets one human as a master and the other as a subhuman. And for all the claims of ‘good treatment’ and ‘encouraged to free them’, slavery thrived under Islam for 1350 years. Several Generative AI estimated that the number of slaves taken during Islamic conquests reached a staggering 16 million slaves, which is compared to 12 million slaves taken during the Transatlantic trade. The only difference is that the Westerners were more efficient than usual. 12 million in 300 years compared to 16 million in 1350 years! The question that I ask every person trying to find a justification here is: Are Western values or UN mandates more powerful than Allah at stopping slavery?
