101 Reasons Why We Left Islam – Chapter 3: Islam and Science – Reason 40

Alongside the claim “Iron came from the sky” that saw hundreds of thousands of YouTube videos claiming the miracle of the Quran, was also the claim that the Quran in 21:30 states that all living things are made of water.
Quran 21:30
Do the disbelievers not realize that the heavens and earth were ˹once˺ one mass then We split them apart? And We created from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?

In 2015, research by Dr Brian Glazer, an oceanographer at the University of Hawaii, confirmed that all living things could only exist with the existence of water. The Islamic Dawah went into a complete over-drive, in the same way they did before insisting that this information is new and how can a ‘desert dweller’ have known this fact 1400 years ago!

There were two problems with this claim. First of all, most desert dwellers would have known that water is an essential component for the survival of any living thing having experienced the dry desert seasons where everything dies! But more so, we discover that this knowledge was common back then.
Thales of Miletus is a Greek Philosopher had suggested water is the source of all living things some 1000 years before the Prophet. He stated in a well-documented writing:
“For Thales, water wasn’t just the substance from which things were made; it was the very principle that held everything together.”

This debunked the claim that ‘no one knew this at the time’ to be a lie or, at best, misinformation.
But we would go further and challenge Islamic Dawah by showing that in Islam, we do not believe that ALL living things are made of water. In fact, the Quran explains that Jinns are created from smokeless fire:
Quran 15:27:
As for the jinn, We created them earlier from smokeless fire.
Quran 55:15:
and created jinn from a ˹smokeless˺ flame of fire.
And anyone who is going to try to come up with excuses that Jinns are not created living beings, think again because the Quran comes back with the following statement:
Quran 51:56:
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
If they are not living beings, how can they worship Allah?
Note: With ‘Debunk’ reasons for leaving Islam we do not provide Islamic excuses as the debunk is meant to address a false claim for a miracle. Debunking a claim works particularly better for people who converted to Islam or held onto their Islamic belief based on these claims. Also, more and more Islamic Dawah pages have moved away from using these techniques, see the conclusion of Chapter 3.
Final Thoughts:
You cannot help but feel the desperation of Islamic Dawah with these claims of the ‘miracle of the Quran’. In the last two reasons of this chapter, we will continue to see how desperate the online Dawah movement has become. In a world of digital searching, there are no longer excuses to make false claims and allow misinformation in order to convert people. But as we will see, these things continued regardless. And the moving of the ‘goal post’ will continue long after this book is completed. In conclusion, I will address how to debunk any claim in just a few simple steps.
