In most of the Western World, reported cases of sexual violence against women shot up significantly in the aftermath of the “MeToo” movement. Not because suddenly there were more attacks on women. No. Because women felt safe to report incidents that they were either too afraid or felt the police will not take them seriously. Don’t kid yourself. This is happening in the Islamic countries and we know it. In our culture where women are blamed for the attack on them, even when they are fully veiled, you get perpetrators who will say “she tempted me” and the blame suddenly falls completely on her!
Whenever someone comes to market this false narrative that some Islamic countries are safer for women because they have less attacks on them …stop there and emphasize “REPORTED” attacks. Remind them of the above facts and if they are honest with themselves, they will realise they cannot rely on the statistics coming from these countries.
